Meghan and Harry visited Uvalde, Texas, the location of the second deadliest shooting in a U.S. school to open a new community play space

Archewell, the charitable foundation of Harry and Meghan, paid a visit to Uvalde, Texas where a shooting in the Robb Elementary school 21 lives. It was the second deadliest shooting in a U.S. school. The royal couple decided to build a new community play space in Uvalde. It was the result of a tie up between the couple's charitable foundation, Archewell, and the city’s nonprofit KABOOM! Harry and Meghan came down to Uvalde after nearly five months of the tragic incident of gun violence. Incidentally, the Duchess of Sussex visited the city soon after the tragedy. At the time, a spokesperson for the couple had told a media outlet that she came "in a personal capacity as a mother, to offer her condolences and support in person to a community experiencing unimaginable grief." The intention of the project identified as DeLeon Park playground is to bring families together as they come to terms and recover from the tragedy. The park has a building located four blocks from the school. The community and the kids gave their input on what they wanted to see and play with in their dream playground. In a press release, Uvalde mayor Don McLaughlin said - "Uvalde has a long road ahead to recover, but this is a resilient and close-knit community. Coming together to build the new playground at DeLeon Park has given community members a way to unite around something positive as they try to heal. We are grateful for the rallying of support from KABOOM!, Archewell, and others who are committed to the long-term health and well-being of the kids and families in Uvalde." In another statement, James Holt, the executive director of Archewell, said – “It has been an honor to support the children and families in Uvalde design and build this amazing space where the community can come together. Our hope is that this special project can help the community heal, and be home to imagination, games and play for many years to come."
